A gift, this book is a gift that you should offer to yourself and to someone you care for. Words matter, and we have to reappropriate common language. Because discussing emotions is not natural or usual, I lacked definitions. I used one simple word, stress, to describe a complete panel of emotions; in a nutshell, I lacked nuances. After reading this book, you will be able to easily distinguish between feeling stressed or overwhelmed
This atlas proposes 87 definitions for emotions and describes how you feel when they arise. The book is organized into groups of life circumstances and describes all the emotions that may arise. It provides a natural way to navigate the book when you need to consult it to help you identify the emotion you are experiencing.
Definitions
For each emotion, you will have the means to differentiate them, perceive the nuances between them, understand the root causes. Reading it will help you to not feel alone and accept that it’s natural. With this new ability and the advice insde you will be able to navigate better this wave of emotions.
This book has been a gift to me,
Primarily because a friend who knows me well and with whom I have open-hearted, reciprocal discussions thought it was time for me to explore my emotions further to become a more effective active listener. If your goal is to help people, you must first understand yourself to better comprehend others. By understanding what is happening within you and why you have these feelings, you can better help others navigate their emotions.
For a long time, I’ve been helping, listening, and offering different perspectives to the people I support at various moments in their journey. In the beginning, I focused on helping them question themselves to find their true objective and reflect on their career. I also guided them through topics like decision‑making and how to address technical or human challenges, such as difficult conversations. I stayed within a certain zone of technical comfort.
After this book,
I was able to support and help colleagues who were going through difficult times on a more personal level, when they felt affected by what was happening to them or what they saw happening to others. And before, I wasn’t equipped to do that well.
This book gave me a series of insights I was able to use during difficult times to support colleagues, friends, and family members. When you can name what is happening inside you, when you understand what you are feeling, and when others go through the same wave of emotions, you connect better with others, you are not alone, and you can start helping or being helped.
My favorite quote: Vulnerability is not weakness; it’s our greatest measure of Courage.
